How to Crochet V-Stitch Two Ways - Tutorial + Video! (2024)

Have you ever tried V-Stitch? If not, this is a great place to start, because today I’ve got for youwritten patterns,diagrams,andvideo tutorialfor this technique! It’s very easy, so beginners should have no problems with it – all you need to know are basic stitches.

Two ways of making V-Stitch result in quite different final effects, so choose the one you like the most! In my video, you can see that they are very similar in making, but the rows are much different in height.

This is a great stitch for beginners, so if you are just starting out, be sure to master it. You can change the colors in every row, or go for a uniform palette. Make it from a squishy cotton blend and you can easily crochet a beautiful baby blanket!

Somehow the combination of pink and blue-green always works great, so don’t be shy and try this palette for yourself! As you can see, the v-stitch looks quite different in such a subtle color flow, but I think it’s mesmerizing.

Colors used: 253 Tropic, 385 Chrystaline, 518 Marshmallow, 238 Powder Pink, 222 Tulip, 398 Colonial Rose.

Alternating colors from deep dark tones to light and bright ones will make your design pop, so consider this palette when choosing colors for your next project!

Colors used: 105 Bridal White, 124 Ultramarine, 394 Shadow Purple, 396 Rose Wine, 252 Watermelon, 410 Rich Coral.

Can you smell the lilacs? This palette was my favorite to make because it’s inspired by fresh spring greens and colorful little buds.

colors used: 105 Bridal White, 282 Ultra Violet, 520 Lavender, 226 Light Orchid, 392 Lime Juice, 245 Green Yellow.

How to Crochet Half Double Crochet (hdc) V-Stitch

This stitch is quite dense because the stitches are short and nicely interlocking with each other. It’s a lovely technique to use for baby blankets, so choose your colors and try it out!

  • chain (ch)
  • half double crochet (hdc)

Written Pattern

START:

chain multiple of 2.

ROW 1:

chain 2 (this is your turning chain for hdc), insert hook in the 4th stitch and work 2 hdc in the same stitch; *skip 1, 2 hdc in one stitch* until you reach the last 2 stitches, which should be: skip 1, 1 hdc.

ROW 2:

chain 2 (turning chain for hdc), work 2 hdc in the space between hdc stitches from the previous row (between the “arms of the V”); *skip 1, 2 hdc in one space* until you reach the last 2 stitches, which should be: skip 1, 1 hdc.

Continue repeating row 2.

How to Crochet Double Crochet (dc) V-Stitch

This version of the stitch is more lacy and breathable because the rows are taller than with half double crochet. It creates more space between the stitches, so you can create a nice lacy crochet fabric with very little fuss!

Techniques

  • chain (ch)
  • double crochet (dc)

START:

chain multiple of 2.
