Add some fun crochet Christmas lights to your holiday decor. They can be made as single tree ornaments or turned into a garland and don’t require any sewing.

It just wouldn’t be Christmas without lights. We’ve made it a family tradition to drive around and see all the Christmas lights in the area and they’re always so magical.
I love the simplicity of these crochet lights. However, you could add cute faces to them and make them extra fun!
About the Pattern
These crochet Christmas lights are no-sew. The cap is crocheted off the light bulb and we’ll use our ending tail to create a little loop for hanging or turning into a garland.
I’ve only made three lights for my garland so far but I’ll definitely be making more to add to it.

Materials
- DK weight yarn in your choice of colours for the lights and green (I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Mustard Yellow, Pillar Red, Pansy Purple and Slate Green for the lights pictured)
- 2.5mm crochet hook
- Polyester fiberfill
- Stitch marker, yarn needle, scissors
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- inc – increase
- invdec – invisible decrease
- dec – decrease
- BLO – back loop only
- sl st – slip stitch
- st/s – stitch/es
- […] – repeat the instructions in brackets

Finished Size
The finished light bulb measures approximately 2.75″ (7cm) long. Size may vary depending on tension and materials used.
Gauge
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Use a hook size to match your chosen yarn. Make sure that your stitches are tight enough to prevent stuffing showing through and adjust hook size if necessary.
Notes
- Pieces are worked in a continuous spiral starting with a magic ring unless otherwise specified. Mark the first stitch of each round with a removable stitch marker.
- R19 of the light bulb and R4 of the cap are worked in the back loop only.

Light Bulb (light colour)
R1: 5 sc in magic ring (5)
R2: [Sc] x5 (5)
R3: [Inc] x5 (10)
R4: [Sc] x10 (10)
R5: [Sc, inc] x5 (15)
R6: [Sc] x15 (15)
R7: Sc, inc, [2 sc, inc] x4, sc (20)
R8: [Sc] x20 (20)
R9: [3 sc, inc] x5 (25)
R10: [Sc] x25 (25)
R11: 2 sc, inc, [4 sc, inc] x4, sc (30)
R12-16: [Sc] x30 (30) 5 rounds
R17: [3 sc, invdec] x6 (24)

Start stuffing and continue to stuff as you go.
R19: BLO [sc, dec] x6 (12)
R20: [Invdec] x6 (6)
Cut the yarn leaving a tail and pull through last st. Weave the yarn tail through the front loop only of the final round and pull to close. Hide the end inside the light bulb.
Light Bulb Cap (green)
Join green yarn to first leftover front loop of R19 of the light bulb.
R1: Ch 1, sc in same space and in each front loop around (18)
R2-3: [Sc] x18 (18)
R4: BLO [dec] x9 (9)
Stuff. Focus stuffing towards the outer edges to keep the top as flat as possible.
Cut the yarn leaving a long tail of approximately 30cm and pull through last st. Weave the yarn tail through the front loops only of the final round and pull to close, secure with a small knot.
Hanging Loop
We’re going to use our ending tail to add a small loop to the top of the cap.
With the front of the light bulb facing you, insert your hook through a st in the last round next to where the yarn tail is and out through the centre. Grab the yarn tail and pull up a loop.
Ch 4. Bring your hook back through the centre and across to another st in the last round on the opposite side. Sl st, fasten off and hide end inside the light bulb.
If making a single ornament, thread some yarn, twine or ribbon through the loop for hanging.
Garland
You can adjust the spacing between lights by adding or subtracting chains. I added a small loop for hanging at each end of my chain but this is optional.
Ch 10, sl st to first ch.
Ch 30, sl st through the loop on top of the light bulb. [Ch 15, sl st through the loop on top of the next light bulb] repeat adding as many lights as you like.
To finish, ch 40, sl st in tenth ch from hook.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
How to Customise Your Crochet Christmas Lights Garland
There are several ways that you can customise this garland to suit your needs.
- Change the length by adding more light bulbs or adjusting the number of chains between each one.
- Add cute faces. You could give each light bulb a different expression.
- Add other Christmas motifs, store bought ornaments or embellishments such as jingle bells or ribbon.
