Chapter 9
Percy POV
A middle-aged man towered over me; a hilt of a rapier aimed between my eyes. I looked nervously at the hilt with wide eyes. There was no blade at all, and yet it felt like I was staring at one at the same time even though there was nothing there. Then I felt it, a needle-like point prodded into the skin between my eyebrows, blood slowly dripping down the sides of my nose. I immediately tilted my head back, my body leaning with it while using Skia to keep myself from falling. I gritted my teeth as I stepped back and held Skia in a stance. I carefully observed him. He wore white and yellow light armor which were enough to protect his whole body but not too much to weigh him down. His face was wrinkled from old age but then again, he was probably immortal due to the amount of power that was rolling off of him.
“Who are you?” I said through gritted teeth, my eyes showing a bit of fear as I suddenly felt a blast of power erupt from him, causing me to collapse on a knee. Too strong. He chuckled lightly.
“Well, let us just say, your grandfather and I aren’t in the greatest of terms after he cut me up to a million pieces,” he smirked evilly as he pulled back his rapier hilt, holding it in front of him. The air where the blade was supposed to be shimmered bright blue and started cracking with electricity as well as gusts of wind swirling around the long thick needle blade.
“Ouranos,” I barely finished saying before he went for a quick jab aimed straight at my head. Everything went in slow motion and my eyes went large before I regained composure and leaned it to the right. He withdrew just as quick, then went back for multiple jabs, the electricity glowing brighter and the wind growing stronger. I kept dodging and at one time had to zap away from the deadly blade.
“So, this is the supposed kid who will fight with me? Pathetic,” he spat. He was trying to get into my head, I tried to keep my cool, but it was getting too annoying.
I am having a really hard time now because my weapon is only for mid-range targets like Thalia’s spear. Luckily, I have more than just one version of Skia, though I have not mastered them. Skia hummed excitedly, she has not been in that form for so long. This was her first form to begin with when Asteria helped me smith it.
“Howl, Skia,” and as soon as the words left my mouth, a howl rippled through the night as if it was showing its emotions to the moon above. Skia shifted, the blades now faced to one direction and curved more. The handle shortened until it was the width of my hand and then a guard rose up from below. It’s now a crescent glaive with two yellow gems that seemed like wolf eyes were on the hand guard of the glaive.
“Interesting. I’ve seen that blade from somewhere, I just couldn’t recall from where, well, anyways,” he flashes forward like blue lightning and my eyes widen in shock. He shot out multiple stabs that looked like blue lasers coming at me. I gripped Skia behind me, ready to attack at a moment's notice.
“Tide Bringer, Mist Delay,” another trick dad gave me before I disappeared to train with the council. Ouranos threw a surprise stab towards my head that I was not expecting at all. A sound rang out, like a sword piercing through skin.
Phoebe POV
I had just woken up, my eyes went wide, remembering what had happened. Monsters were able to take me by surprise which was a major blow to my pride. I shook my head in annoyance but then my body suddenly tensed. Where was I? My head jerked from side to side, eyes wide wondering what happened when I was out. I was sitting down in the middle of the tent; my bow and quiver filled with silver tipped arrows sat beside where I had laid. Using my powers, I checked my body to see for any wounds or what not and sensing nothing to be different other than a few bruises because of the ambush; I tiptoed over to the tent flap.
Then I felt a burst of sudden energy that was just all too familiar, my father, Ouranos. I tasted a bitter taste in my mouth, remembering how he never treated me as one of his real daughters just because I only had so little domains. And then there was also the time when he tried to kill my children because he had thought that they would have taken his seat of power. Luckily, Kronos was able to cut him up before he was able to kill my children. But then there was another source of energy, something almost to the level of my father. My eyes went wide with shock; it was not an energy signature I have encountered before. Very slowly, I opened the flap by just a fraction of an inch and noticed I was in a clearing. I saw my father, the word feeling like poison in my mouth. I couldn’t even say how badly I wanted to get my revenge on him. There was also another man who was standing his ground to Ouranos. He wore a black assassin’s cloak that was rimmed with bright green and vambraces were strapped on to his forearms tightly. There were blades hidden in the vambrace, barely visible. He held a crescent glaive that was made of different metals. I have not seen one of those blades since I had last seen Summanus. He mastered it before he suddenly disappeared without a trace but a scorch mark where he was last seen. His power was radiating within the glaive, it seems like the boy was blessed by one of the strongest weather gods there is. He also held the same fighting stance of Summanus which just proves that he was trained and has been blessed by the lost god. The boy wore tattered jeans that were wrapped with chains that had small cylindrical capsules which were hooked on to the chain links itself. The boy’s eyes were visible from the angle I was looking to, a shade of green that seemed to remind me of the sea.
His scent was young though, but not weak, possibly a son of Poseidon. That wasn’t the only thing I could distinguish from his scent. I could smell the dead, the night, the forest, shadows, magic, and the hearth. He was blessed by so many deities that it makes my senses go haywire. The blessings were so strong that it felt like the very immortal who had blessed him was in the clearing itself.
I shook my head and tried to focus on what was happening between the two men.
The boy muttered something to himself. I couldn’t make out what he had said as I tried to read his lips. At the corner of my field of vision, I saw Ouranos lunge at the boy, a wild stab aimed towards the head of the boy. The boy did not move and suddenly, I saw the tip of the blade flashing menacingly as it protruded from the other side of the head of the boy. I could see Ouranos smirk at the shocked look plastered on the boy’s face.
“Seems to me that the Olympians have just lost their only hope of winning against me,” the words barely left his mouth when a voice spoke out, the same voice of the boy.
“You celebrate too quickly,” as soon as the voice said that, the boy’s body dissolved into mist. The voice came from above. “And you seem to be too slow for me.”
Ouranos had looked up only to see the boy above him, his glaive aimed straight towards the head of my father. Ouranos threw multiple stabs at the boy who was barely 3 feet away from him when suddenly; the body of the boy disappeared into mist again. I rubbed my eyes then blinked, the boy was now crouching below Ouranos, and his glaive reared up to land a blow from under Ouranos’ guard. I could distinguish the irritation in his facial features as he brought down his rapier in a strong downward slash, electricity tailing the swiftly descending blade. But then, once again, the boy evaporated into nothing once more as soon as the blade was mere inches from his face.
I blinked again, now seeing the boy behind Ouranos, his back facing Ouranos’ back. His hand was outstretched behind himself, one of the blades of the glaive pressed against Ouranos’ neck, deep enough to draw a trickle of blue blood. Ouranos’ eyes were wide with shock.
“Impossible. Me, bested in speed? Impossible.” He disappeared immediately in a flash of lightning and crack of thunder, his face fuming with anger.
“Well, it seems like it is possible you nitwit,” the boy muttered with a smile. “Cry, Skia,” his blade shimmered slightly. So, the blade had a name. The same name Summanus called his, other than the fact it was called Keravnos Skia or Thunder Shadow. The guard of the glaive vanished, and the handle lengthened and then the one of the blades faced the other direction. It was like a modified version of a naginata, a very difficult blade to use.
The boy rotated the blade with ease and then placed it on his back. He left it there, with nothing to let it hold on and yet it was like it was strapped on to his back. It was probably some sort of enchantment.
“It appears to me that you are awake, Lady Phoebe,” said the boy with a sigh of exhaustion as he turned around to face where I hid with a slight bow. I showed myself and nodded back in respect.
“Who are you? Were you the one who saved me? And why was my father here?” I sent him a barrage of questions.
“Whoa, slow down. You really are the titaness of bright intellect. So much like Athena, she always asked a lot of questions. Let’s get something to eat first before I tell you the course of events that happened while you were unconscious,” he patted a spot beside him as he sat in front of the fire.
I sat down, but farther away from where he motioned me to sit. “What food would you like?” He asked and I stared at him in wonder. So he was blessed by Hestia. I have never seen her take such interest in a boy. This boy must have done a lot of heroic deeds.
I looked up, checking the time. It was most likely sometime around 4 am in the morning already. “I will probably have some bacon and eggs with coffee.”
He nodded and clapped his hands. There was a poof and a sheet of mist shrouded the space above my lap. The mist disappeared into the wind and left a plate with 4 strips of juicy bacon and 2 sunny side-up eggs. There was also a mug of coffee beside where I had sat. I looked over to the boy and he had a plate with 5 NY style cheese pizzas stacked one after the other and a glass of blue cherry co*ke. What was intriguing about this was the fact that the cheese on the pizza was blue as well.
He noticed me staring at the blue cheese, “I like blue.” I nodded in understanding. He pulled down his hood, showing a face that looked like something Athena would have cut from marble. He was handsome, really handsome. His messy black hair was lying a bit over his eyes and he quickly brushed them back as he took a bite on one of the pizzas. I also started eating my food.
“My name is Percy. Percy Jackson.” He continued. “And yes, I was the one that took care of the monsters who had taken you captive. As for why your dad was here, I honestly don’t know. He might have wanted to recruit you for the upcoming war but I beat him to it, literally.” I stared at him in wonder. Percy was one fascinating person.
“You are planning to recruit me, is that what you are implying?” I asked.
“Yeah, I guess. But it was Lady Asteria and Lady Hecate who wanted me to recruit you.” My eyes went wide in surprise.
“So, you have met my two daughters, huh?” he shook his head with a smile.
“I also met Lady Leto when I made sure that she was free from her prison,” he said as he was already starting on his fourth pizza.
“Then I guess I accept, only because I would side with my daughters rather than my husband and Ouranos,” he grew confused when he heard how I said ‘Ouranos’ through gritted teeth. Then his eyes grew wide in realization after he recalled something.
“Oh yeah, Ouranos tried to kill your children,” he nodded in understanding.
I nodded in reply as we both finished our food at the same time. He stood up then went inside the tent where I had woken up from and brought out my bow and quiver. He handed them to me before collapsing the tent which turned into a small cube he had just pocketed.
“I’ll send you to the council, Asteria and Hecate will explain to you the situation. Currently, we are readying troops to defend Olympus. They’ll tell you the rest.”
“Who’s the council?” I asked.
“You’ll find out. I’ll shadow travel you to their location now,” he said.
Before he could teleport me though, I gave him a brief peck on the cheek while whispering a thank you. His cheeks turned red and then snapped his fingers.
I saw the shadows jump up and gathered around me as everything went black and my surroundings turned into hyper speed.
Percy POV
I brought down my hand. My muscles were aching. My breath hitched as I felt the stress from using mist delay too many times in such quick successions.
And then I sensed it.
There was an arrow coming straight at me.
A silver arrow.
Which was followed with a loud shout, “YOU BASTARD!”
