What happens if you get scratched in Project Zomboid? ›

Scratches will bleed and cause your health to decrease, but you can fix them using bandages or ripped sheets. If you receive a scratch from a zombie this is much more dangerous, as it carries a 7% chance that you will turn into a zombie.

Not all injuries in Project Zomboid can simply be bandaged up. Wounds can either be surface-level, like a scratch, or something deeper, like a laceration and deep cut. If you're scratched, all you need is some disinfectant and a bandage to treat it properly.

You might think a cut or scrape is no big deal. But any time the skin gets broken, there's a risk of infection.

If you get bit, you will die unless you changed the sandbox settings to not include infection mortality or use an antibodies mod. This zombification infection can still affect your character even if the wound itself is not infected or designated with the orange infected text.

The game will never outright tell the player that they are infected, and will instead develop symptoms over time. Therefore, if scratched or lacerated, on default settings, a player will not know that they have contracted it until the symptoms begin showing, which are nausea, stressed, and unpleasantly hot.

The short answer is no. Unless you or the owner of the server you're playing in turned the setting off, bites are 100% fatal every time. If you get bit, that's it, game over. Over the course of the next few days, your character is going to get sick, anxious, and eventually keel over before joining the undead.

Lacerations are 25% infectious, scratches 7%, and zombie bites 100%. If you come across a wound that indicates "bitten," your character has contracted an infection and will perish. One must, of course, remember that wounds do not necessarily come from zombies alone but may come from any number of other causes.

Leaving a wound untreated can also lead to it becoming infected depending on the player's clothing, the type of wound and whether a dirty bandage is left on. A dirty bandage can be left on a wound to stop the bleeding, however this will give the wound the highest possible chance of becoming infected.

Wounds heal faster if they are kept warm. Try to be quick when changing dressings. Exposing a wound to the open air can drop its temperature and may slow healing for a few hours. Don't use antiseptic creams, washes or sprays on a chronic wound.

Scratches on your face, hands, or body when you wake up are usually caused by scratching yourself while asleep. You may have a skin condition that's causing intense itchiness at night, or you may have dermatographia. Dermatographia causes even very light scratches to produce raised red marks.

Should I worry about a scratch? ›

Most cuts and grazes can be treated at home and will start to heal in a few days. But some wounds may need to be treated by a medical professional if there's a risk of infection or the cut is serious.

By default setting, being bitten is 100% fatality. You will die then turn into a zombie in couple of days. You can change the settings from sandbox options. Which eventually effects if zombies can only kill you by damaging and eating you or with a simple bite.
