After the OPP issued a press release identifying the body, Ottawa-area residents reacted with sympathy, offering numerous condolences to Ms. Meehan and her family.

“I never personally met you, Carol Anne, but have come to know you and your compassion for others by watching you deliver the 6 p.m. evening news,” said one respondent wrote in a Book of Condolences on the CTV website. “I am saddened by the news. My prayers are with you and your kids. I just want you to know that your absence has been felt by all of us who are blessed enough to have CTV News as our hometown platform.”

Staff at CTV Ottawa learned of the discovery of Mr. Etue’s body late Monday afternoon after a call from Ms. Meehan, said general manager Richard Gray. “Understandably, she and her family are devastated,” he said. “They’ve spent the past two weeks hoping and praying that Greg would return home safely.”

Gray described the mood at the station as “very sombre. This has been a tough story for our news organization to have to tell. It’s a very sad story that everyone hoped would turn out very differently.

“The thoughts and prayers of her entire CTV family are with Carol Anne and her children during this time of incredible loss.”

Mr. Etue was reported missing to the Ottawa Police Service on Jan. 16. Mr. Etue left home wearing a grey jacket, a baseball hat and winter boots. At the time, Ms. Meehan described him as “a wonderful father.”
