wimpunk- 2010-12-16
Hi,
I have a database with the passwords I use on computer and a mobile database with the passwords I use on my mobile. I tried to drag and drop an entry from one instance to the other but that doesn't seem to work.
Is there an easy way to copy entries between databases?regards,
wimpunk.

In KeePass 2.x, select the entries, right-click -> 'Clipboard' -> 'Copy Entries'. In the other database, right-click -> 'Clipboard' -> 'Paste Entries'.
Best regards
Dominik

To convey the meaning of the function more realistically the text should say 'Copy Entry(ies)' and 'Paste Entry(ies)' since the default selection anywhere in KeePass is a single record.
As it is, it easily implies that the whole set of entries in the group will be copied - when it's not so.
It's taken me the whole of the Wimbledon Ladies Final second set to confirm that the function operates on only the current entry (singular) - although multiple entries *can* be selected and copied, with extra effort.

sorry to revive this thread 5-years after the OP, but i googled here and i hope it is relevant, since I am trying to follow Dominick's instructions above, and they don't work for me, unfortunately.
on KPv2.30, I still cannot do this to copy an entry between 2 databases. Each database is already open in KP, but in a different tabsheet. I do select the entry in one tabsheet/database, right-click -> 'Clipboard' -> 'Copy Entries'. Now in the other tabsheet/database, right-click -> 'Clipboard' -> 'Paste Entries' does not work, because 'Paste Entries' is inactive. I also cannot drag & drop. Dead in water -- unless for each entry I want to manually create it and cut/paste the field values over 1-by-1.
I also agree with Phaedron Ennius: UX on this could be improved with simple word changes like "Entry(ies)" to make the operation clearer. But I'd also like to see the functionality work first.
Ubuntu 14.04 (KXStudio) with KDE, running KeePass with mono.
Let me know if there is any additional information I can provide.

Works fine under Windows.
Works on my Lubuntu 14.10.
You need to paste before the clear clipboard timer gets to 0.cheers, Paul

As Paul says, paste quickly. Also, after Copying, I found I could not just "right-click -> Clipboard ... anything" on KeePass destination folder in the folder tree on the left, but if I left-click on the destination folder, then in the entries list I scroll to the bottom of the list, then in the space below the other entries, I can:
Right-click -> Clipboard > Paste Entries
to paste the copied entry into the desired folder.Although this works, I'd suggest, for sanity, having "Copy Entries" and "Paste Entries" commands made available directly under the Edit menu when one or more entries are selected.

For the record: I also had problems with moving an entry from one database to another. When right-clicking an entry, "Clipboard" is not displayed. However, I could use the menu bar at the top of the window:
1. Select the entry / entries to be moved / copied
2. Find the "Entry" Menu in the menu bar at the top of the window (should be next to "Group" and "Find")
3. Select "Entry" -> "Data Exchange" -> "Copy Entry (Encrypted)"
4. Go to the destination database where the entry should be pasted (e.g. another tab)
5. Select "Entry" -> "Data Exchange" -> "Paste Entry"
However, be aware that the time an entry can be pasted is limited (similar to the time a password can be pasted). To be faster, you can use the shortcut "Ctrl + Shift + C" to copy a selected entry, and "Ctrl + Shift + V" to paste the selected entry. Hope this helps other users that have the same problem :)

Dominik, would it be possible to increase the clipboard timeout for "Copy Entry (Encrypted)" actions? Maybe 60 seconds?
cheers, Paul
Dominik Reichl- 2020-05-16
Sure, go 'Tools' → 'Options' → tab 'Security' → set 'Clipboard auto-clear time (seconds; main entry list)' to 60.
Best regards,
Dominik

That affects all clipboard operations. I was thinking you need more time for entry shuffling, but it's not really critical so just setting the whole lot to 60 is fine.
cheers, Paul

I can't find the answer: When I take a file in one database and transfer to another I cannot "export entry" but have to use "Data exchange copy entry". Should I use "encrypted" or "unencrypted"?
wellread1- 2020-12-03
Either will work. Encrypted is preferred when copying between KeePass databases because the copied entry data is encrypted during the copy-paste operation.
Note: You should copy the selected entry if you want KeePass to treat it as a new entry with a new UUID (unique identifier) in the destination database. You should export then import the selected entry if you want KeePass to treat it as the same entry with the same UUID in the destination database.
