  1. We LOVE these brownies and appreciate the fact that they are easy to prepare and the ingredients are not costly. For those who think these are "too cakey" I have two hints to make these brownies more dense. Use WHITE whole wheat flour and make your own chocolate syrup. I make the syrup with the "special dark cocoa powder" and it is delicious (and cheap!). This recipe would also work to combine the ingredients from the brownie recipe along with the syrup ingredients for a one bowl brownie. I might just figure that out, make a sample pan and come back & post the recipe & results later. :-) Geez, if I mix all the dry ingredients X 4, then I have a dry mix for 4 batches of brownies. Or make the mix and cut the ingredients by 50% per batch and bake in 8 X 8 pan. Hmmm..........all kinds of ideas. And the frosting could be made "rocky road" by adding chopped walnuts and miniature marshmallows. Oh yes, it is time to experiment!

  2. One of my families favorites! I do bake about 10 minutes longer than this recipe calls for but we love the cakey brownies and fudge icing. Anytime I bring this dish for family, office or church event there is never a crumb left.

  3. Too sweet and Cakey. You do need to cook them longer. Perhaps I would add Dutch cocoa powder, instant espresso or a cream cheese marbeling. Sickly sweet blah cowardly washed out chocolate without the fudgy hit I crave in a brownie. Threw the whole pan in the garbage

  4. I had to cook these for an extra 13 minutes. But otherwise, very good

  5. I was very disappointed with how these brownies turned out. I was expecting a dense, fudgy brownie, but I ended up with something much closer to chocolate cake than a brownie. I also had to bake an extra 10 minutes because they weren't done in the time specified. The chocolate flavor is good but not great, but I do like the icing and will use it on other brownie recipes. Definitely too cakey for me though.

I am the mother of three, wife of one :) My teenager is the pickiest eater in the world, while my 3 year old will eat anything (though has been acting more and more fickle lately). Our newest addition was born in June 2008, so she doesn't really know much in the way of varieties of food. My husband says "I don't care what you fix, as long as it has meat in it."I have thousands of recipes saved on my computer from over the years, and am constantly on the lookout for new ones. I also seem to have accumulated hundreds of cookbooks over the years. I am (slowly) trying to go thru all the recipes I have saved and add them to 'Zaar, but this will take some time. I try to only post things that my family (or I) will eat (though I haven't necessarily yet tried every recipe I have posted). <img src="http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/duch*eSS13/cookbookswap.jpg"> <img src="http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/duch*eSS13/Zaar%20World%20Tour%203/ZWT3-Participation.gif"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/captain.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t237/akplongmeadow/ZWT3b.jpg"> <img src="http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b280/carolinamoon21/Stockingswapcopy.jpg"> <img src="http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w115/bugh8er/food%20and%20swaps/4811_39528.png" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/Adopted1smp.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"> <img src="http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/tgifford/Game%20Room%20Banners/AM%20Banners/ZaarStar-AMBanner.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/smPACp.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"> <img src="http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/duch*eSS13/Zaar%20World%20Tour%204/ZWTAB-tg.gif"> <img src="http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/tgifford/Game%20Room%20Banners/AM%20Banners/potluckpbanner.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z205/jubespage/kid-friendlytag-participation2.gif"> <img src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/lauralie41/cookbookswapspring08-2.jpg"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/IWasAdoptedfall08.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj81/HokiesLady65/123HitAMpage.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/PACfall08partic.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z205/jubespage/stacky5.jpg"> <img src="http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr336/jess4freedom/Zaar%20banners/Kid-Friendly-Tag.jpg"><img src="http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e110/flower753/Food/my3chefsnov2008.jpg"> <img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a24/ohohkatie/MARCHTAG1.jpg"> <img src="http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg271/MrsTeny/Permanent%20Collection/PACSpring09Iwasadopted.jpg"> <img src="http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg271/MrsTeny/Permanent%20Collection/PACSpring09Participation.jpg"> <img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/ZaarNicksMom/Animation6.gif"> <img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/ZaarNicksMom/PACsticker-Adopted.jpg">
