- Broccoli - fresh or frozen broccoli florets can be used. If using frozen, defrost them before use otherwise your casserole may become a bit watery.
- Cottage cheese - plain and unflavored.
- Feta cheese - adds an additional cheese flavor. Can be omitted or swapped with goats cheese.
- Cheddar cheese - use a mature Cheddar cheese or substitute with pepper jack cheese.
- Eggs - helps bind the cheese mixture and is a great source of protein.
- Nutmeg - optional if you are not a nutmeg lover!

Bake until firm and golden. Slice and serve!
Storage
Once cool, store the cottage cheese broccoli casserole in an air tight container and keep in the fridge. It should last up to 3 days and can be enjoyed cold or warmed up. I enjoyed a cold square for breakfast the next day!
Recipe Tips
Other preferred seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder or paprika can be added for taste.
You can customize your casserole by adding diced onions, minced garlic or cooked mushroom slices for additional flavor.
Blanch the broccoli before adding to the baking dish for a softer broccoli texture. We don't precook ours as we enjoy the slight crunch and find that the broccoli bakes well in the cottage cheese egg mixture.

Can you freeze broccoli cottage cheese casserole?
Yes, you can freeze broccoli and cottage cheese casserole. Freezing can be a convenient way to preserve leftover casserole or to prepare it in advance for future meals. Allow the casserole to cool completely before freezing. It's essential to avoid moisture buildup inside the container, which can result in freezer burn.
When you're ready to enjoy the frozen casserole, remove the desired portion from the freezer. If the casserole was in an airtight container, you can place it directly in the preheated oven. Bake the frozen casserole for about 25-30 minutes if it's an individual portion, or longer (about 45-60 minutes) if it's a larger casserole. Make sure it's heated through and the center is piping hot.
Remember that freezing can slightly change the texture of the cottage cheese, making it slightly grainy or separated when reheated. However, the overall flavor should still be delicious. Enjoy your reheated broccoli and cottage cheese casserole!
What to serve with cottage cheese casserole
A broccoli and cottage cheese casserole is a versatile dish that can be paired with various sides to create a well-balanced meal. A simple green salad with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and your favorite dressing is a refreshing choice that complements the casserole's flavors.
We enjoy this with a side of coleslaw and pumpkin fries but any low carb sides can be served. Or enjoy it by itself!
